Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions may be found below, or if you cannot find an answer to your question, please use the contact form to submit your inquiry and our team respond during normal business hours!

Halotherapy or Dry Salt Therapy mimics the climate of a natural salt cave by using a halo generator to grind 99.99% pure grade sodium chloride (salt) into microparticles that are then dispersed into a room. The dry salt aerosol that is produced works to aid respiratory and skin concerns or conditions. Halotherapy is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, making it a great way to reduce inflammation, clean your respiratory tract, and support skin balance. This is why people say dry salt treatments are to your lungs and skin what toothbrushes are to your teeth! For your skin, salt provides pH normalization and aids in restoration of the derma by impacting skin microcirculation and cellular membrane activity.

People with the any of following conditions may benefit by this modality:

  • Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis
  • Cold, Coughs, Flu
  • Allergies/Hay Fever
  • Sinus Infections/Sinusitis
  • Ear infections
  • COPD
  • Emphysema
  • Acne, Psoriasis, Eczema
  • Rosacea, Dermatitis, Rash
  • Stress, Anxiety, Fatigue

Rather than a traditional room producing steam or using a “box of hot rocks” as heating elements, infrared saunas use an infrared spectrum to promote relaxation, detoxification, and many other wellness benefits. there are three types of infrared wavelengths:

  • Near infrared is the shortest wavelength but penetrates the deepest. It has the distinct property that it is not captured by the water of the body allowing it to penetrate the deepest to increase your core thermal energy.  Near infrared is associated with photobiomodulation which directly produces energy within the cells through ATP stimulation.
  • Mid infrared wavelengths are also captured by water molecules while temporarily increasing circulation through vasodilation, promoting temporary increase in blood flow and temporarily elevating heart rate and overall metabolism.
  • Far infrared is the closest of the wavelengths to the infrared heat given off by our own body. Far infrared is readily captured by the water molecules in the body and releases its energy.

Thus, as your body absorbs the infrared heat, it increases thermal energy producing a deep and relaxing sweat while also increasing blood circulation and improving cardiovascular function. Additionally infrared saunas are cooler than traditional saunas, heating up to a temperature range between 43 to 54 C (110 to 130 F) and benefits may be attained within 20 minutes.

Red light therapy uses photobiomodulation, directly producing energy within the cells through ATP stimulation via a low-level laser that delivers red and near-infrared light to areas of your body. By doing this, red light therapy is said to help in regeneration and restoration of the body's cells, while triggering blood flow and decreasing pain. Red light therapy may benefit those that are looking to  repair damaged skin, boost new cell growth and enhance skin rejuvenation.

Using the red light tower during your salt + sauna session at HaloHeat Sauna Studios is particularly advantageous for:

  • Anti-aging: Individuals seeking to mitigate signs of aging, repair damaged skin, or enhance overall skin rejuvenation.
  • Athletes and Active Lifestyles: This therapy is highly recommended for athletes or those with active lifestyles, as it aids in muscle recovery and reduces inflammation, making it easier to maintain regular physical activity.
  • Chronic Pain Reduction: People suffering from chronic pain conditions like arthritis may find significant relief from regular sessions of red light therapy, as it is effective in reducing pain and enhancing blood flow.
  • Wound Repair: Red light therapy is also beneficial for those looking to accelerate wound healing and boost new cell growth, making it a versatile tool in both cosmetic and therapeutic health management.

Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) is a non-invasive and enjoyable wellness modality available at HaloHeat Sauna Studios. By combining sound vibrations with low-frequency tones to induce relaxation, it can complement our other treatments while aiding in your physical and mental health. It's particularly beneficial for those looking for a passive way to manage stress and pain.  There are several reasons why someone might choose vibroacoustic therapy as a wellness modality:

  1. Stress Reduction: The gentle vibrations can help calm the mind and reduce symptoms of anxiety. Many find this type of therapy particularly relaxing, similar to the soothing effects of a deep massage.
  2. Pain Management: VAT has been used to help manage chronic pain conditions, including fibromyalgia and arthritis. The vibrations help to stimulate blood flow and can reduce muscle tension, which in turn can decrease pain.
  3. Improved Sleep: The relaxing nature of vibroacoustic therapy can help improve sleep patterns. It does this by helping the body shift into a calmer state which can make it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
  4. Enhanced Physical Wellbeing: Some studies suggest that vibroacoustic therapy can enhance physical wellbeing by improving circulation, reducing muscle soreness, and increasing mobility.

At HaloHeat Sauna Studios, our vibroacoustic lounger combines the principles of music therapy and tactile vibrations to further deepen your relaxation experience when used after your salt + sauna session. The frequency depends on your goals and comfort. Many clients enjoy the infrared sauna upwards of two to three times a week for relaxation, recovery, or skin health. For halotherapy, some people with respiratory concerns or skin conditions may benefit from more frequent visits. Wellness is personal, so we suggest starting slowly and adjusting based on how your body responds. Always discuss your frequency with your healthcare provider if you have underlying conditions.

Generally, it is advised that salt therapy should not be conducted in high heat or humid environments, as these conditions can diminish the effectiveness of the treatment and potentially lead to discomfort. However, at HaloHeat Sauna Studios, our salt and sauna cabins have been designed with this consideration in mind. Our cabins are equipped to sequence the treatments effectively, ensuring that the salt therapy session completes before the sauna reaches its higher temperatures. This design maintains an optimal environment for salt therapy, allowing you to experience its full benefits without compromising on comfort. Following the salt treatment, you can seamlessly transition to the sauna session without needing to change locations, thereby providing a convenient, private and uninterrupted wellness experience.

Unfortunately, the short answer is, "no." Although Himalayan salt rooms have some reported benefit, they provide only passive exposure to salt. The warming of the Himalayan salt can help release negative ions in the space, which may improve mood and reduce stress, but this method lacks the active therapeutic mechanism of inhalation. Thus the warmed salt blocks primarily enhance the ambiance of a room and provide a soothing environment, but do not provide the same level of respiratory or skin benefits as halotherapy (dry salt therapy).

Halotherapy, an active therapy, is only available through use of a halogenerator. This is why at HaloHeat Sauna Studios we have opted to focus on the more beneficial method to better support those seeking specific health improvements, such as enhanced respiratory function, relief from asthma, allergies, and skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. The active dispersion and deep penetration of salt particles help make halotherapy a potent and targeted wellness modality, particularly for pulmonary and dermatological health.

While halotherapy is considered a natural, non-invasive therapy, there is limited research on its use during pregnancy. Because every pregnancy is unique, we recommend consulting with your primary care physician or obstetrician before beginning any new wellness therapy, including salt therapy. If your doctor clears it, many people find the environment calming and supportive of relaxation.

Individuals with certain conditions, including uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney disease, respiratory illness, or if you are pregnant, should first speak with their doctor before using an infrared sauna or halotherapy. Those taking prescription medications or living with chronic illness should also seek medical clearance. Safety is our top priority at HaloHeat Sauna Studios, and we encourage every client to consult their primary care physician before starting new wellness routines.
